The Waunakee Village Board voted to convene two closed sessions near the end of Monday’s meeting to discuss a notice of intent to incorporate filed by the Town of Westport and to deliberate an intergovernmental agreement with the Waunakee Area Fire Department.
The board first moved into closed session under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(g) to confer with legal counsel about strategy related to potential litigation connected to the Town of Westport’s intent to incorporate. Village staff described recent meetings with Town of Westport officials as “positive” and said staff would share potential terms and conditions for the board’s consideration in closed session. The board’s presiding member stated they did not expect open‑session action would be required after the closed‑session discussions.
The board then moved into a separate closed session under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(e) to deliberate or negotiate the investing of public funds and related bargaining matters regarding the Waunakee Area Fire Department intergovernmental agreement. Trustees again took a roll call vote to enter closed session.
Clerk records show roll call votes permitting both closed sessions. The board recessed into closed session at 7:38 p.m.
