Community Health Board outlines priorities, cites Minnesota Statute 145A and a 2025 community health improvement plan

The Sherburne County Community Health Administrator delivered a bimonthly update Jan. 21 highlighting the statutory framework for local public health, upcoming partnerships and a community health improvement plan due this summer.
"It's the Local Public Health Act, Minnesota Statute 145A," Nicole said, describing the law that governs local public health responsibilities and the division’s focus on promoting, protecting and preventing population health needs rather than clinical treatment. Nicole outlined foundational public‑health capabilities — leadership and governance, information technology, workforce development, finance and legal support — and invited commissioners to upcoming State Community Health Services Advisory Committee meetings and an orientation in April.
She said the public-health division will complete a three‑year community health improvement plan by July 1, 2025, described ongoing work expanding alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention (including cannabis and opioid funds), and noted staff are preparing district-level data books using Minnesota Compass and the Health Trends Across Communities data. Commissioners voted to accept the administrator’s report by voice vote.
