The Village Board on Monday approved a resolution writing off municipal court forfeitures that staff determined to be uncollectible after standard collection efforts failed.
Trustee Joe Sussburger raised a question about one individual near the end of the list who owed about $1,200, asking whether the board should hold off on that item. Clerk staff explained that staff attempted several collection avenues — locating individuals, state debt collection referrals and confirming identifying information — and that some records lack sufficient identifiers to pursue collections. Staff said several cases were held off when there might be another chance for collection, but most entries were written off after unsuccessful attempts.
After discussion and confirmation that staff had pursued available collection remedies, Sussburger moved approval of the resolution to write off the uncollectible municipal court forfeitures. The motion passed by voice vote.
