Sherburne County commissioners appointed Council Member Ken Giroux of Big Lake on Jan. 21 to serve as a municipal representative on the MnDOT Region 7W Transportation Policy Board.
County staff outlined the role of the 7W board: establishing regional policy and distributing federal and state transportation funds allocated to the region. Andrew, the county engineer, explained that Region 7W covers the area between the St. Cloud APO and more urbanized areas around Elk River and that the policy board takes recommendations from a technical advisory committee of city and county engineers.
Commissioners said Big Lake is the logical pick given upcoming projects near that area, including Highway 25 and a bridge project. Commissioner Danielowski moved to appoint Ken Giroux; Commissioner Felber seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. Staff said they will send appointment letters and continue to monitor municipal state aid city (MSAS) eligibility for Baldwin, which could change future representation and maps.
