The Waunakee Village Board on Monday approved a $138,864 contract with the Lakota Group to prepare the village’s comprehensive plan update and authorized the community development director to sign the agreement.
Community development director Lauren told the board the village received nine proposals in response to an October request for proposals, winnowed them to four finalists and that the Plan Commission recommended the Lakota Group following interviews. Lauren said the Lakota Group’s principal planner is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin and that staff and Plan Commission members were “completely on board” with the recommendation.
Plan Commission member and Trustee Joe Sussburger praised the finalist presentations to the commission and called Lakota’s presentation “amazing.” Some trustees raised questions about public engagement methods; Trustee Nyla Fry asked for paper survey options and for surveys to be available at the senior center, community center and library for residents who do not use the internet. Lauren said the consultant normally provides appendices summarizing input from pop‑up events and agreed to provide a paper option.
Trustees voted to accept the Lakota Group proposal and to authorize the community development director to execute the contract. The motion carried by voice vote.
