TxDOT-selected NEVI charging station added administratively to Lubbock MTP; no committee action required

The Lubbock MPO Transportation Policy Committee was briefed on Jan. 21 that the Texas Department of Transportation selected an electric-vehicle charging station for the Microtel at I-27 and 50th Street under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, and that MPO staff will add the location to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan as an administrative amendment.
MPO staff explained the addition is administrative because the station’s selection resulted from TxDOT’s statewide NEVI criteria and does not change MPO funding apportionments. Staff said the inclusion will add the station to the TIP map, the illustrative list and the priority project listing. The presentation noted TxDOT’s statewide NEVI allocation of $407,800,000 over five years and stated the Lubbock region’s NEVI allocation for the station is approximately $1,252,278, which includes a required 20% local match.
Staff emphasized the station selection was made through the statewide process, not by the MPO, and therefore did not require a substantive amendment to the MPO’s MTP. "This action falls underneath the administrative amendment rule, meaning that no additional approval or major adjustments are necessary," the presenter said.
Committee members asked whether changes at the federal level could affect these amounts. Staff replied NEVI funding for this allocation is guaranteed through FY2026 and that the MPO will watch for any administrative rescissions; staff said they expected to know more about future funding decisions in about 30 to 45 days.
A committee member congratulated the Lubbock District for earlier NEVI deployments in the district and asked when the station would be operational; staff said they would obtain a schedule from TxDOT and report back to the committee.
No formal action was required and none was taken at the meeting; staff will reflect the station on MPO planning maps and listings and continue coordination with TxDOT on implementation timing.
