Loxahatchee Guild donates $50,000 for Acre House boardwalk; council approves grant resolution

At its Jan. 7 meeting the Town Council accepted a $50,000 donation from the Loxahatchee Guild to support a boardwalk and ramp designed to allow access to the Acre House at Soft Fish Bay Park without impacting the historic structure.
John Sickler, Department of Planning and Zoning, told council the Acre House deck, ramp and sidewalk project had been pending for years and that the guild had previously pledged $20,000 toward the effort. Mary Therese Dellet, president of the Loxahatchee Guild, said the donation comes from guild fundraisers and stressed the group's interest in preserving local history: "we finally be able to present to you $50,000 from our hard earned little galas that we have for the preservation of history."
Dellet described the Acre House as built in 1913 and appropriate for visitation, and she identified several guild members present. Council moved to approve the resolution authorizing project acceptance; the council recorded “Aye” and the chair stated the motion carried unanimously.
Staff said the donation will be used toward the boardwalk and ramp construction work that allows public access while protecting the structure. The item was presented alongside the town’s broader centennial activities and other preservation-focused work in the parks program; staff said additional grant or budget steps will be pursued as needed to complete construction.
