Friends of the Lake Stevens Library plan fall auction to fund new children’s area; seeking donations and affordable auctioneer

The Friends of the Lake Stevens Library told the advisory board that it plans a silent-and-live auction in the fall to raise money for furnishings and enhancements in the children’s area of the new Lake Stevens library. Lynn, the Friends committee chair, said proceeds from the auction and other fundraisers will support the children’s section and asked board members for suggestions on sponsors, donors and venues.

‘‘We are planning a new fundraiser, and that is an auction that we're going to hold in the fall,’’ Lynn said, describing the event as a mix of silent and live auction items and asking for help with donations and an affordable auctioneer. The Friends said they prefer to hold the event in Lake Stevens and are exploring local venues.

Why it matters: The Friends group is raising private funds to furnish parts of the new library that go beyond the district’s baseline build-out; funds raised will be designated for children’s-area enhancements, the Friends said.

Board and community members suggested outreach tactics and possible partners. City representative Kim Shipman recommended contacting the Lake Stevens Education Foundation for event experience and suggested businesses provide basket-style donations. Lynn said she will pursue venue and auctioneer leads and asked board members to share contacts for sponsors and items.

The Friends asked interested community members to contact the committee and said more details and formal asks will follow by email and at future meetings.
