Resident says Limestone County tag-and-license system forces people to wait outside without online signup

A resident told the Limestone County Commission at its Jan. 21 work session that transferring a driver’s license and vehicle registration into Limestone County has been difficult because the county does not offer online sign-in or kiosk check-in.
Aubrey Ostrout said she recently moved from Georgia and tried to transfer her license and tag in the county. She said staff told her she could not be seen because she had not arrived early enough and that the county "doesn't allow online sign up." Ostrout described waiting outside for extended periods in freezing weather to be seen. "If I get pulled over within this 30 day period and I don't switch my tag or my license over, then I'll either be cited, arrested, or my vehicle could even be towed," she said.
Ostrout told commissioners she was redirected once to the City of Decatur, where a kiosk allowed sign-in, and she urged Limestone County to modernize its process to avoid forcing residents to wait outdoors.
The commission did not announce a staff response or a motion to change the sign-in process during the recorded portion of the meeting.
