The Augusta City Council on Jan. 21 approved a resolution setting a public hearing for 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Augusta City Hall to consider condemnation, repair or demolition of a fire‑damaged single‑family home at 221 East Main Street.
City Inspector Travis Combs presented the staff report and said the dwelling experienced a fire in November; photos in the council packet show significant second‑story damage and interior loss. Combs said the cause of the fire was understood to be electrical and that a full evaluation of the interior would be required to determine whether a complete rewiring and other rehabilitation work would be necessary.
Combs told the council the property owner had been responsive but had not announced a firm plan; options include sale, rehabilitation or demolition. Staff also said insurance proceeds are involved and that a lender/lienholder exists; the inspector said more details would be available at the March hearing. A council motion fixed the hearing date and time and passed unanimously.
Councilmembers asked staff to secure and clip exposed electrical service connections on the property; staff agreed to follow up the next day.
