The council approved a $24,000 change order to add a Bluejay emblem to Guthries water tanks and a second change order extending the contractors schedule by 41 days because of earlier pressure issues; the east tank work is underway and residents were asked to conserve water while repairs proceed.
Guthrie City Council on Jan. 21 approved two change orders for the citys water-tank contract with G and L Tank Sandblasting and Coating.
Change Order No. 1 increases the original contract price by $24,000 to allow the contractor to add a Bluejay-emblem logo on two sides of each tank. Staff reported the original contract price was $679,006.25 and that the change order raises the contract to $703,625.
Change Order No. 2 extends the contract by 41 calendar days. City staff explained the extension resulted from water-pressure issues at the west booster station that delayed contractor start time. Under the revised schedule, staff said the projects completion date will be March 24, 2025.
City staff emphasized the work includes sandblasting and inspection; the council heard that spot welding and other repairs discovered during sandblasting would be addressed while crews are on site. The city manager told the council the east tank has been drained and is undergoing sandblasting and welding work and warned residents to conserve water if they experience pressure loss while repairs proceed. "We will never take both tanks off at the same time," the manager said when describing continuity plans.
Both change orders were approved unanimously. Staff said future change orders may be necessary to address repairs discovered during the sandblasting and inspection process.
Ending: The city will monitor system pressure as repairs continue; staff asked residents to report any pressure problems so crews can address them promptly.
