City leaders and staff praised public works for maintaining services during a winter storm and reported that public works employees received raises as part of the city's budget and evaluation process.
The public works manager reported crews kept pipes from breaking during recent freezing conditions, maintained sewer plant operations (including manual work at the spray field when temperatures dropped) and cleared fallen limbs and debris across the city. Staff said the crew's work limited damage to structures and kept public facilities safe.
Council members noted evaluations were completed for public works employees and that raises were provided this year based on the budget. A town-hall speaker thanked the council for the raises and said the library and other public facilities have benefited from the improved maintenance.
No specific salary amounts were presented during the Jan. 21 meeting; council members said the raises were consistent with amounts budgeted and did not require additional action at the meeting.
