DuBois County Council approved appropriations to allocate $49,699 collected in 2024 from local court-ordered substance-related fees to the countysubstance-use council. Jennifer Lamprell, who presented the item and identified the source as a local $200 court fee tied to drug convictions, told the council the total fund for 2024 was $49,699.00 and that each of four budget categories would receive about $12,424.75. Lamprell said grant applications doubled from 14 in 2023 to 27 in 2024 and that awardees included a mix of school-based prevention efforts, law-enforcement supplies (drug-test kits and prevention tools), treatment and recovery supports and youth-focused programs.
Lamprell described community events the council supported in 2024, including a live "Rise" recovery run that raised $767.90 for a CrossFit facility that offers sober programming, an annual candlelight vigil and a county-wide drug take-back effort. She said the council had started rebranding to clarify its role and that neighboring counties had asked for its bylaws after seeing DuBois Countyactivities.
Council members moved to approve two related additional appropriations: $12,424.76 for personal services and $3,372.74 (reported in the meeting as other services). The motions were seconded and approved by voice vote. The council also approved a salary ordinance related to the council-funded case manager position that set a maximum hourly rate of $22.95; the ordinance and related hours were described in the meeting record (the salary ordinance figure and monthly hours were included in the transcript discussion).
