Walnut Grove schedules Envision Walnut Grove workshops and HB 581 public hearings; postcards delivery uneven

Walnut Grove officials announced the first Envision Walnut Grove visioning event and several public hearings related to state House bill HB 581 as part of a public-engagement push.
Planning staff reported the Envision Walnut Grove visioning event is scheduled for Jan. 21. Separately, the council set three public hearings required under HB 581 in case the city decides to opt out of certain state provisions: Jan. 30 at 6 p.m., and two hearings on Feb. 13 (one at 10 a.m. and one at the regularly scheduled evening meeting). Those hearings will be held at city hall, the mayor said.
During town hall a resident noted that some households had not received the mailed postcards announcing Envision Walnut Grove, and asked the city and neighbors to continue spreading the word and to direct residents to the online materials. The mayor said businesses in town were receiving flyers and staff would replenish supplies at public locations.
Jim Thompson, a reporter from the Walton Tribune, was introduced as attending the meeting to cover city matters, and councilmembers encouraged broad participation in the workshops and hearings.
No policy decision on HB 581 was made at the Jan. 21 meeting; the hearings are scheduled to collect public comment before the council decides whether to opt out of provisions referenced by HB 581.
