Triton reports progress on Somers athletic fields; courts and turf installed, some bleacher and softball work delayed by weather

Triton Construction and H2M Architects and Engineers updated the Somers Central School District Board of Education on Jan. 21 about ongoing athletic-facility work across district fields.
Kevin Sawyer of Triton told the board the tennis courts are about 98% complete and are lined for six pickleball courts. The synthetic turf field and infill have been installed and stormwater-management work near the main roadway by the baseball field is in place and functioning. Sawyer said bleacher deliveries for multiple fields are expected in February with installation planned for March.
Sawyer noted weather-related delays for the softball field, where frozen ground has limited grading and installation of drainage and stone base; he estimated those field finishes will resume in spring thaw. Work on throwing-event surfaces is roughly 30% complete and dugouts are under construction. When asked whether the project was on budget, Sawyer said the construction team had not incurred owner-driven additional costs and that “we're within our budgets.”
Board members asked about potential savings and alternatives if bids come in lower than estimates; Triton said any savings could be used for added site or practice facilities but cautioned the project is being managed to spend the available budget without exceeding it. Board members also confirmed that some site elements — for example, a concrete connecting sidewalk to the parking lot — are planned to be completed in time for spring sports and events.
