Committee approves donor-funded 'Write On' scholarship for East Bridgewater seniors

The Bridgewater School Committee on Tuesday approved a privately funded scholarship to support East Bridgewater High School seniors with a demonstrated interest and aptitude in writing.
Rhonda DeChambeau, who identified herself as an East Bridgewater High School graduate and longtime resident, proposed the "Write On" scholarship and said she would personally fund the $300 award from her writing proceeds. "I'd like to call it the Write On scholarship, for students who have a passion for writing," DeChambeau said during her presentation. She told the committee she would work with guidance on application timing and selection criteria and offered to serve on the selection committee if the district wanted.
Superintendent Legault and guidance staff explained the standard process: after committee approval the guidance office will coordinate application prompts and deadlines with the donor and will manage the award distribution. A committee member moved to accept the scholarship; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
DeChambeau told the committee the scholarship will award one senior $300 and that guidance will help publicize the application. Committee members praised the donor for the contribution and noted the award aligns with a current high-school writing initiative.
No conditions or town funding were attached to the scholarship; the donor will supply the funds and the guidance office will manage the adjudication and award logistics.
