During the consent item, a board member asked that future agendas include a discussion of emergency medical services related to the highway call-box program. The board member said the call boxes "are great," but added that when vehicles are off the roadway and people are injured, volunteer fire departments — not ambulances — often retrieve and transport patients, creating a significant operational burden on volunteer departments in places such as Willow Creek, Blue Lake and Dinsmore.
The board did not change the consent items; the comment was entered for future consideration and not acted on at the meeting.
The roll-call vote on the consent calendar recorded nine votes in favor and one abstention.
