Marblehead submits capital priorities including Glover cafeteria AC, playground, auditorium repairs and vehicle purchases

Facilities staff reported the district’s capital priorities to the town capital‑planning process and described a ranked list of needs ranging from a $70,000 air‑conditioning solution for the Glover School cafeteria to vehicle and equipment requests.

Mike, a facilities staff member, said the top request is adding cooling to the Glover School cafeteria, which he relayed as Todd’s estimate of about $70,000. "Todd believes that we can, put some cool air in that area for about $70,000," Mike said. The second priority is a second playground structure at Glover. The district also requested reupholstering auditorium seating and painting the Veterans Auditorium ceiling and possibly walls.

Other priorities include upgrades at Marblehead High School (refinishing gym floors at the Vets' gymnasiums and replacing variable frequency drives), and rolling stock: a special‑education 7D van (a 7‑passenger transit‑style vehicle with optional ramp) and a small yellow minibus suitable for narrow Marblehead streets. Facilities staff reported that narrow roads and winter snow can make full-size yellow school buses difficult to operate in some neighborhoods, so a smaller minibus is a priority.

Lower-ranked items include heavy‑duty pickup trucks with plows and a transport trailer to move lifts and landscaping equipment. Staff said the district will await the capital committee’s recommendations on which items will go forward to town meeting.

Next steps: the capital committee will decide which projects to advance toward the town meeting warrant; facilities staff will provide additional cost details as requested.
