Lawrence County Prison Board approves minutes, population report and elects 2025 officers

The Lawrence County Prison Board at its Jan. 22, 2025 meeting approved routine business including minutes, the population report and payment of bills, and elected officers for the 2025 term.

The board approved the previous meeting's minutes by voice vote after a motion and second; the chair announced the ayes had it. The board then approved the population report after a motion and second; the chair recorded the approval by voice vote. The population report presented the jail census and related housing facts; board members then approved payment of bills attached to the population report by motion, second and voice vote.

On officer appointments, the board approved a motion to designate Controller David Crespo as treasurer of the prison board for the term beginning with the first meeting in 2025 through the first meeting in 2026; members recorded votes by roll call and the motion carried. The board then established the remainder of its slate for 2025: a temporary chair (a commissioner agreed to accept the chair on a temporary basis), Commissioner Michelle Kennedy was approved as vice chair, and Commissioner Vogler was nominated and confirmed as secretary (the secretary's confirmation included an abstention recorded in the roll call). The chair closed the business portion by offering thanks to outgoing leadership and moved to adjourn; members approved the adjournment by roll call.

The meeting did not include contested elections or formal ballot procedures; votes were recorded as voice votes for routine approvals and by roll call for officer appointments where names were read and members responded.
