Tom Winfrey elected chair, Jonathan Christie elected vice chair of Goochland County Board of Supervisors

The Goochland County Board of Supervisors elected Tom Winfrey as chair and Jonathan Christie as vice chair during its Jan. 21 organizational meeting and approved a resolution formalizing the leadership for the 2025 session.

The leadership nominations were opened by Vic Carpenter, who presided briefly while the board completed its annual organizational business. A motion to nominate Tom Winfrey for chair was made and seconded; Winfrey and Christie were later confirmed by roll-call vote when the board approved a resolution electing the chair and vice chair.

The resolution approving the 2025 chair and vice chair was put before the board and adopted by roll call. Board members recorded their votes in sequence during the roll call; the transcript records affirmative votes from members named during the roll call.

Board members briefly observed a ceremonial swapping of chairs after the vote. In remarks after being elected, Winfrey thanked his colleagues and said he would work “very, very diligently to earn your respect.”

No amendments or conditions to the resolution were recorded in the minutes, and the board moved on to adopt other organizational items for the year.

The election concludes the board’s annual organizational duties and establishes its leadership for appointments, committee assignments and other procedural matters that will govern board business through 2025.
