The Denton Independent School District Board of Trustees on Jan. 14 approved multiple routine and non-routine items in unanimous votes, including a motion to name the cosmetology salon at LaGrone Academy for longtime instructor Brenda Buster.
Board President Barbara Burns called for votes on several agenda items after a brief closed session and a program of recognitions. Trustees moved and seconded each item; all motions passed with unanimous support from the seven trustees present.
Among the actions the board approved were: the naming of the LaGrone Academy cosmetology salon for Brenda Buster; adoption of the district’s secondary course planning guide; the official order for the 2025 trustee election; boundary rezoning for Jennings Elementary; and the consent agenda, which included several routine approvals.
Trustee Charles Stafford moved the naming motion for the cosmetology salon, and Trustee Mia Price seconded it. The board heard a summary of Brenda Buster’s career in Denton ISD before voting. The meeting record shows the motion carried without opposition.
The motion to adopt the secondary course planning guide was moved by Dr. Patricia Sosa Sanchez and seconded by Trustee Lori Tayes. Trustee Mia Price moved, and Trustee Cheryl English seconded, the order to call the trustee election. The boundary rezoning for Jennings Elementary was moved by Trustee English and seconded by Dr. Sosa Sanchez. All votes were recorded as unanimous.
The board conducted these votes after presentations and a public hearing earlier in the meeting; no roll-call dissent or abstentions were recorded in the minutes provided.
The board’s next steps for each approved item will follow standard district procedures: facility naming is now a district record; the course planning guide and boundary change will be implemented according to district timelines; and the trustee election order puts the election process into motion.
