Linebarger presents $24,746.27 in excess tax-sale proceeds to Corsicana ISD

Ron Capehart, accompanied by Allison Williams of Linebarger, told the Corsicana ISD Board on Jan. 13 that the firm brought two checks representing excess proceeds from tax-sale properties that sold for more than the taxes owed. Capehart said property owners have two years to claim such funds through the court registry; if unclaimed, the monies are distributed among taxing entities.
"And tonight, I have checks totaling $24,746.27," Capehart said, noting the funds are non-budgetary and may be used by the district as the board and district see fit.
Capehart and Williams presented the checks to the board during the audience-for-guests portion of the meeting. Trustees did not take a formal vote on the presentation; it was received as an informational item and the checks were handed to district representatives.
The board packet lists the amount presented; the district may decide how to apply the funds in a later action if trustees choose to do so.
