Lynwood health report: RSV, norovirus and pneumonia upticks; county warming centers open

Trustee Clark told the board on Jan. 14 that local hospitals have reported an uptick in respiratory illnesses and urged residents to observe basic precautions and vaccinations.
Clark said COVID risk in the community remains "low and medium" but reported an overall increase of about 6.9% in respiratory‑illness activity. She said respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has risen particularly among youth aged roughly 12 months to 17 years, and that norovirus is also on the rise. Clark urged residents to practice hand hygiene and avoid sharing food or drink and recommended that children and adults get pneumonia vaccinations where appropriate, especially those with chronic conditions such as asthma or COPD.
Clark also warned of severe cold: windchill values were expected to reach about minus 9 to minus 10 degrees. She noted Cook County opening warming centers and provided the county web contact recorded in the meeting (cookgov.me/staywarm) for assistance referrals.
The board received the health update as informational; no public‑health orders or local mandates were announced at the meeting.
