Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD trustees on Jan. 16 approved the consent agenda, which grouped routine and recommended items into a single vote. Key items the board approved include:
- SHAC curriculum recommendation (Item 5g): The district's School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) recommended curriculum materials to comply with Senate Bill 9 (87th Legislature) requirements to provide instruction on prevention of child abuse and family violence in elementary and secondary schools and instruction on dating violence and human trafficking in secondary schools; the SHAC noted parental consent is required before students receive instruction on those topics. The curriculum-review committee met and recommended approval; the item was placed on the consent agenda for board adoption.
- Memorandum of understanding for GoCentral work-study mentorship (Item 5i): Administration presented a proposed MOU to partner with the University of North Texas to support the GoCenter program and weekly collegiate mentors for Ranch View High School and Turner High School. The district described the partnership as replacing a prior University of Texas at Dallas arrangement that ended because of funding changes.
- Amendment No. 2 to construction-manager-at-risk contracts (Items 5m and 5n): Staff presented amendments tied to two renovation packages from the 2023 bond program. Package 9 work will complete architectural/renovation projects at several campuses; the second phase of Package 2 covers work at Davis and Thompson (with one remaining piece to follow in coming months). Administration explained early phases had a guaranteed maximum price structure and that unspent funds from earlier phases are being returned and applied to remaining work in each package.
The board approved the consent agenda unanimously by a single motion and vote.
