An external audit of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD's 2023-24 finances returned a clean opinion and no compliance findings, the district's auditors reported and trustees approved on Jan. 16.
Roger Tovar, audit partner with Whitley Penn, told the board the firm issued an unmodified opinion on the district financial statements and also issued unmodified opinions on the district's major federal programs tested under the single-audit requirements: ESSER and Title I, II and III. He said there were no internal control or compliance findings.
Tovar presented government-wide figures included in the audit: total assets of about $1.37 billion, capital assets near $712.6 million, and net position of about $449.2 million at year-end. In the general fund, the audit showed revenues of about $288.5 million and expenditures near $301.1 million; the general fund balance decreased about $9.8 million and ended the year at roughly $134.2 million. Unassigned general-fund balance was reported at about 30% of operating expenditures (roughly 110 days).
Trustees voted unanimously to accept the audit report and thanked district accounting and budget staff for their work.
