WYLIE ISD: Bond projects advance as district, contractor coordinate schedules and scope

Jenna, a representative from Gallagher, told the WYLIE ISD Board of Trustees that bond-funded construction at the high school VO-AG site is now visibly active and the district has secured the elementary-school building permit, allowing work to expand.
The update matters because bond proceeds are funding the new elementary, a VO-AG facility and a multi-part high school package that includes a band-hall expansion, classroom additions, an athletic/gym area that will double as a storm shelter, and demolition of an existing BOAC building. Jenna said packaging the two large projects together produced substantial savings the district expects to reallocate to site and scope items.
Jenna said crews are preparing grade beams at the VO-AG site and that shipments of building components and concrete pours should begin soon. She said Gallagher and district staff will refine a master schedule next week and that the team expects to begin receiving large shipments and seeing visible on-site activity around Valentine’s Day. She also said the district had taken steps to coordinate deliveries and campus operations so construction traffic does not interfere with buses, students or athletic activity.
The district reported it now has the full building permit for the new elementary school. Jenna described compaction work on the elementary pad and said crews had completed multiple “lifts” of compacted fill to prepare foundations. She said that as scaffolding and lifts increase on site the district plans additional coordination meetings with campus staff to maintain safety and access.
Jenna told the board that packaging the two large bond projects yielded savings “over 12,000,000” that the program team expects to use to address items identified during scope refinement, including corridor widths, storm-shelter coordination and other site needs. She said drawings for the high school package are expected to be ready for bidding “the first week or two of April” and that the team plans to advertise the bid package at the end of the school year.
District staff said some work already completed or underway includes upgrades to athletic facilities (baseball and softball electrical work, tennis building interior framing and drywall), construction of shot/discus rings, new sidewalks and accessible seating at athletic fields, and internet/infrastructure closet upgrades. The facilities update also listed planned summer work on flooring, painting, restroom upgrades, playground and HVAC-control work on older rooftop units.
Jenna and district operations staff said they will provide a revised master schedule at the next board update and will continue to post photos and progress information on the bond website as media becomes available.
The presentation included no formal board votes. Gallagher staff and district operations representatives will return to report schedule refinements and milestones as construction progresses.
