The Seward City Council voted to rezone Lot 1, WCP Addition from AG (Agricultural) to I-2 (General Industrial) and introduced an ordinance initiating voluntary annexation of that same lot into the city’s corporate limits.
City staff (Tim) said Dustin Blomquist and Rick Aigner, owners of a commercial cabinet shop, requested the rezoning and annexation so they can relocate their business to Seward. Tim told the council the parcel was platted as a minor plat, the proposed industrial zoning is contiguous to existing I-2 zoning nearby, and the proposed use is a permitted I-2 use. The planning commission recommended approval of both items.
Dustin Blomquist spoke during the public hearing, saying he was “excited for the opportunity to move out here” and provided his Lincoln address. Rick Aigner also addressed the council and said he appreciates the chance to locate between Lincoln and Seward. Jonathan (Chamber of Commerce) said the proposal matches the city’s master plan for the Knox addition and welcomed the business.
The council dispensed with the statutory rule and voted to adopt Ordinance No. 2025-2 (rezoning). Votes in favor were announced as Franciscato, Kaylor, Tanias, Colchman, Miller, Singleton, Streisand and Morgan, 8–0. The voluntary annexation ordinance for Lot 1, WCP Addition was introduced on first reading; staff said this is intended to align zoning and jurisdiction once annexed and that planning commission had recommended it.
No substantive public opposition was recorded. Next steps include finalizing the annexation procedure and any required administrative steps to effect the jurisdictional change; the rezoning ordinance will be published as required.
