The Anne Arundel County Council approved three administrative measures on Jan. 21.
- Small procurements: The council adopted Bill 9,824 to align county code with a charter amendment that raised the simplified procurement threshold from $5,000 to $10,000. Ethan Hunt said the charter amendment passed with 89.44% of the vote in the 2024 general election. The bill passed 7–0.
- Sovereign Grove loan: The council approved Bill 9,924, granting the Severn Grove Improvement Association authority to obtain a $140,000 loan from Sandy Spring Bank (15‑year term) for renovation of its clubhouse and permitting the lender to use district assessments as security. The association stated its annual assessments will not change and that loan repayment will come from assessments. The bill passed 7–0.
- Byrne JAG grant: The council adopted Resolution 4,924 to approve an application to the U.S. Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for $141,404, with proposed funding beneficiaries listed as the State’s Attorney’s Office, Health Department, Sheriff’s Office, Circuit Court Drug Court, and the Partnership for Children, Youth and Families. The resolution was adopted 7–0.
Roll‑call votes for each item were unanimous, with Council members Fiedler, Radvian, Ledbetter, Smith, Pickard, Volkke and Chair Hummer recorded as voting aye.
Ending: These measures affect administrative procurement thresholds, one community‑district borrowing arrangement, and acceptance of a federal justice grant; none involved extended council debate during the session.
