The Locust Valley Central School District Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Christina Tomlinson to fill the trustee seat left vacant by the resignation of Michelle Schaeffer. The board adopted a resolution naming Tomlinson to serve through May 20, 2025.
The board said the seat could have remained vacant, been filled by special election, or filled by appointment; members said an election for the short remaining term was not prudent. A board speaker read the resolution and declared: “Be it resolved that effective upon the adoption of this resolution, the Board of Education of the Locust Valley School District herewith appoints Christina Tomlinson as board member and trustee to fill said vacancy on the Board of Education until May 20, 2025.”
Board members described Tomlinson as experienced in district volunteer roles, including service with parent councils and the CPC. The board asked the district clerk to administer her oath following the vote.
The vacancy came after the resignation of Trustee Michelle Schaeffer; the board confirmed that Trustee Holly Estebas remains recovering from a medical procedure and is expected to return in February. The board noted that, under New York open-meetings rules, most of its deliberations occur in public and that filling the vacancy through appointment is within its legal options.
No additional motions or roll-call vote names were recorded in the public transcript beyond the board’s announcement that the vote was unanimous.
