CCSD advisory commission forwards multiple school rezoning recommendations to trustees

The Clark County School District Attendance Zone Advisory Commission voted Jan. 21 to forward four attendance-boundary recommendations to the Board of School Trustees, sending proposed rezoning plans for several elementary, middle and high schools to trustees for final consideration on Feb. 27.

Tracy Murphy, Demographics and Zoning staff for the Clark County School District, told the commission that the proposals were presented after public input meetings held Jan. 13–15 and were developed because some schools are in high-growth areas expected to add students. "In developing alternatives and in making its recommendations, the commission should follow all relevant district policies, regulations, procedures, and guidelines," Murphy said.

Why it matters: The recommendations would change where students attend school in parts of Henderson and other growth areas, shifting enrollment to use available capacity and to preserve feeder-school alignment. The proposals will not take effect unless the Board of School Trustees adopts them; trustees are scheduled to meet Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. to receive ASAC recommendations.
