Wilson County commissioners on Jan. 21 approved three separate land-use actions presented during the planning and zoning portion of the meeting and granted a one‑month deferral for an additional rezoning request.
The commission unanimously approved a land-use plan amendment and rezoning for 1615 Sparta Pike, shifting the property from low-density residential and R-1 rural residential to general commercial (C-2) to allow commercial development; the property was described as approximately 2.21 acres. Staff said the Planning Commission had not produced a positive or negative recommendation on the item; the county commission approved it on a unanimous vote.
A separate rezoning request for property at 1108 Highway 109 North, submitted by Charlie Dean (Dean Design Group) on behalf of property owner Gene Callas, to rezone from R‑1 rural residential to C‑3 highway commercial (approximately 0.8 acres), was forwarded with a positive recommendation from the City of Lebanon’s regional planning commission and approved by the county commission.
The commission also approved a master plan amendment for a 13.13‑acre property at 2720 McCreery Road (tax map 137, parcel 16) to allow mini storage, truck parking and box-truck rental; the property’s access was clarified as Logistics Drive, not McCreery Road.
Separately, the commission approved a request from Jake Porter (Civil Site Design) representing Wick Customs (Kirby Watt team) to defer a rezoning application (R‑1 to C‑3) to the February meeting so the applicant could address commissioners and affected residents.
Planning staff read the legal notices and parcel references into the record and invited public comment; the applicant for 1615 Sparta Pike spoke in favor of commercial use at the Sparta Pike interstate exit, citing nearby commercial properties and commuter traffic as rationale.
All formal votes on the items were taken in open session following public comment and planning staff presentation.
