County reports $20,000 brownfield grant, jail project meeting, multimodal sidewalk grant

County officials reported several project updates: the county is the first in the area to receive a $20,000 brownfield grant for an initial identification phase; an upcoming commission work session on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the community center will continue discussions on the jail project with Spirit Architects and Jim Langford; and a multimodal grant to build sidewalks to McMurray remains active, with additional grant requests intended to cover cost differences.
Staff said the brownfield contractor will identify candidate properties, including the former roller rink building and a downtown hotel, and will evaluate sites for possible remediation grants. The county also said EPA completed a second-phase investigation of an eight-acre former community dump owned by Ward School, and the county expects an EPA report.
Officials noted some corner work near Old Town and McMurray awaits Tennessee Department of Transportation approval. The county plans to resume work this spring on a survey sketch now that the county has signed off on the scribe/sketch project.
