The Los Angeles City Public Works Committee approved several consent items and voted on separate motions to authorize a commemorative streetlight sign for a downtown ramen shop and to amend negotiated payment terms for city services related to the Grammy Awards.
On consent the committee took items 2, 3 and 6; the clerk announced those items were approved as amended by roll call. “These items are approved as amended as you stated,” the clerk said after roll call.
Item 4, a motion by Councilmembers De León and Price to install a commemorative sign at 314 East Second Street recognizing a longstanding ramen shop, was approved as amended. The committee authorized the Los Angeles Department of Transportation to fabricate and install a double-sided sign stating, “Kawaraku America’s oldest ramen shop still in operation, 314 East Second Street, LA, established in 1976,” on the streetlight pole at 314 East Second Street in Downtown Los Angeles. The committee called the roll; Councilmember Hernandez, Councilmember Padilla and Councilmember Hutt voted yes and the item was approved as amended.
Item 7, a motion from Councilmembers Price and Park concerning the Recording Academy and the Grammy Awards, was approved with technical amendments. The committee amended the recommendation to (1) authorize the use of supplemental police law enforcement services supporting the Recording Academy for the 67th through 69th Grammy Award ceremonies with full reimbursement of police services pursuant to California Government Code section 53069.8, and (2) recognize the economic benefit generated by the ceremonies and waive reimbursement requirements for city services other than police law enforcement services pursuant to Municipal Code section 41.20.1(c) for events at major sports and entertainment venues. The item was approved as amended on a roll-call vote with Councilmember Hernandez, Councilmember Padilla and Councilmember Hutt voting yes.
