Clay County approves ByteSpeed purchases for 150 laptops and 60 desktops totaling $160,890

The Clay County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 21 approved two IT equipment purchases to replace aging county laptops and desktop PCs.
Rory (title: IT/technology services, per meeting materials) told the board the county replaces computers every four to five years and requested procurement approval for the lowest bids received. The board approved purchasing laptops from ByteSpeed at a total cost of $112,950; the county expects to replace about 150 machines on a rolling schedule rather than all at once. Rory said the county recycles retired machines through a vendor that destroys hard drives and recycles hardware.
The board also approved a purchase of 60 desktop PCs from ByteSpeed at a total cost of $47,940. Rory said desktops are expected to last about five to six years and the purchases are budgeted through internal service funds.
Commissioner Ebinger moved to approve the laptop purchase and Commissioner Baer seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. Commissioner Kravanoff moved to approve the desktop purchase and Commissioner Bair seconded; that motion also carried by voice vote. County staff said these purchases are budgeted and will proceed through procurement and deployment plans handled by IT services.
