Rockhurst Foundation seeks city support for Saint Mary’s 5K on Feb. 22; route and barricade plan discussed

A representative of the Rockhurst Foundation said the group plans to hold the Saint Mary’s 5K on Feb. 22 and provided the council with a race route and timeline, asking about barricade placement and possible WEMA support.
“I’m here representing the Rockhurst Foundation for Saint Mary's, and we have the 5 k run coming up,” Josh Evans told the council, describing a start in front of Saint Mary's Church, a kids fun run at 1:30 p.m. on Chestnut Street, and a 5K start at 2 p.m. He said the route is the same as previous years and that the last participant typically finishes about an hour and a half after the start.
City staff said police previously assisted with street blocks and that the city can place barricades if staff and equipment are available. Staff asked Evans to coordinate barricade locations with Mister Gidcombe and to contact Mark Seaton, the WEMA director, regarding possible emergency-management assistance.
Ending: Evans said weather looked more favorable and that organizers would work with city staff on barricade placement and volunteer assignments.
