The Northside ISD Board of Trustees approved the district’s comprehensive annual financial report (audit) on Jan. 21 after hearing a presentation from interim deputy superintendent Tiffany Contreras and representatives from the external audit firm.
The auditors issued an unmodified opinion — commonly called a “clean audit” — and reported no internal-control findings or compliance issues in the financial statements or the single‑audit testing of federal programs (the auditors reviewed Child Nutrition as the major program this year). Interim deputy superintendent Tiffany Contreras summarized the multi-month audit process and noted that the auditors performed interim and year‑end testing, confirmations, internal-control walkthroughs and analytical procedures.
Board members discussed the district’s fiscal results. The audited FY 2023–24 year‑end results included a realized deficit of roughly $38.6 million, which staff said will draw on designated fund balance that had been set aside previously for instructional continuity. Trustees and staff noted that the approved FY 2025 budget had contained a budgeted shortfall and that continued planning is needed as the district prepares for the FY 2026 budget and awaiting possible changes from the legislative session.
Trustees asked that the auditor’s transmittal letter be included in the final published report; staff confirmed the final auditor letter would be attached and the report posted to the district website and forwarded to required state agencies. A motion to approve the financial report passed in open session.
Ending: Staff will publish the final report with the auditor’s letter, submit required reports to TEA and continue finance‑committee work ahead of the FY 2026 budget cycle.
