Medina Central Appraisal District asks Northside ISD to share cost of new appraisal office

Medina Central Appraisal District vice chair Jody Jacobs told the Northside ISD Board of Trustees on Jan. 21 that the appraisal district has a building under contract and needs the school district’s support to finance a purchase and remodeling project.
Jacobs said the appraisal district has occupied county-owned space for about 41 years and must move because the county has other plans for the building. She told trustees the total projected cost to buy and remodel the identified building is “in the 1.7 to $1.8 million range,” and that local bank financing is in place. She said, by her calculations, the district’s share would be about $26,100 per year as an increase to the appraisal district’s budget that Northside helps fund.
The matter was presented as informational; trustees did not act immediately. Jacobs asked the board to consider a resolution and to allow the appraisal district time to secure the necessary approvals from taxing entities. She described a 30‑day timeline that would begin after a resolution is signed by at least 75% of the appraisal district’s taxing entities.
Board members asked procedural questions about timing and recommended the appraisal district bring the draft resolution to the district’s finance or building committee for review before full board consideration. Trustees also asked staff to coordinate committee review so the appraisal district’s 30‑day window could be met.
The appraisal district gave additional figures and context: Medina County’s appraisal district budget is roughly $1.6 million and Northside ISD represents about 2.2362% of that levy, per Jacobs’ presentation. She said the district has identified properties, has a contract on one, and plans to roll a construction loan into closing. Completion and a move-in date the appraisal district cited was September 2026.
The board did not vote on any financial commitment at the Jan. 21 meeting. Trustees directed staff to route the request to the appropriate committee(s) for review and to schedule the item for action at a future meeting if committee recommendations and draft documents support it.
