The decision followed a lengthy work-session and public-comment period in which residents and some council members questioned whether the proposed site plan matched the expectations set by the city’s comprehensive plan and whether additional design changes or mitigations were needed. A number of council members urged the developer to hold further community outreach to address concerns about density, access and neighborhood impacts.
Council discussion recorded that the applicant communicated a willingness to revise the plan and to hold an additional public open-house to present changes and hear resident input. Council supporters of postponement said the request provides an opportunity for constructive dialogue that could produce an improved plan; opponents contended postponing delayed a public decision and raised concerns about consistency in applying procedural timelines.
The motion to postpone passed in council with a majority vote; staff and the applicant said they expect the developer to return with a revised plan after carrying out further outreach.
