Scottsdale Planning Commission elected Commissioner Scarborough as chair and retained Vice Chair Joe Young in a roll-call vote, and the commission approved its Dec. 11, 2024 minutes and a two-item consent agenda that included case 4 AB 2024 and the Planning Commission annual report.
The leadership votes came during the meeting’s single regular agenda item — the annual election of officers. Commissioner Scarborough received a majority in a roll-call tally after nominations were taken; Vice Chair Joe Young was re-elected by unanimous roll call. The commission also approved the consent agenda and the minutes by roll-call votes.
The commission moved quickly through routine business. Mr. Curtis, a planning staff member, delivered a brief administrative report noting the next scheduled meeting is Feb. 12, 2025. The commission then approved the Dec. 11, 2024 regular meeting minutes on a motion from Vice Chair Young with a second from Commissioner Urtell; the roll call returned all yes votes and the motion passed.
The commission approved the consent agenda — two items — on a motion from Commissioner Scarborough with a second from Commissioner Joiner. The consent items were: recommendation of approval to city council for case 4 AB 2024, with staff-recommended stipulations after a finding that the conditional use permit criteria have been met and that the proposed abandonment is consistent with the adopted general plan; and approval of the Planning Commission annual report. The roll call vote on the consent agenda passed.
During the election for chair, Commissioner Diana Kaminski was nominated and declined the nomination. Following that, a nomination for Commissioner Scarborough proceeded to a roll-call vote: Chair Higgs — yes; Vice Chair Joe Young — yes; Commissioner Gonzales — no; Commissioner Diana Kaminski — yes; Commissioner Ertel — yes; Commissioner Joiner — yes; Commissioner Scarborough — yes. The motion to elect Scarborough as chair passed. For vice chair, a motion to retain Vice Chair Joe Young passed by roll call with all voting yes.
The meeting concluded after the brief business and the commission adjourned.
