Coral Springs commission approves equipment, training and multiple board appointments in unanimous votes

At its Jan. 15 meeting the Coral Springs City Commission approved a number of routine and policy items by voice vote, recorded as unanimous.
Item 9 (pulled from the consent agenda for brief discussion) authorized use of forfeiture funds for advanced officer training and an equipment truck. Mayor Scott Brook asked whether the funds would affect the general fund; Chief Brad Mok responded that forfeiture funds are used "exclusively for officer training" and clarified the equipment truck is intended to store specialty equipment and is not an armored vehicle. Mayor Scott moved the item; it was seconded (second as recorded) and passed unanimously.
Item 18 authorized awarding the Florida Sheriffs Association contract for pursuit, administrative, other vehicles and heavy trucks and buses for a not-to-exceed amount of $1,250,000, funded from the equipment replacement fund to replace scheduled vehicles in the fleet. City staff described the purchase as a routine replacement. The motion to approve was moved by Commissioner Simmons, seconded by Commissioner McHugh, and passed unanimously.
Appointments and reappointments approved unanimously included two Community Redevelopment Agency board reappointments (Mark Mendel and Mike Del Pozo), and appointments to the Firefighters Pension Board and Police Officers Pension Board (personnel changes were made to reflect internal transitions described by the city manager). The Multicultural Advisory Committee appointment of Laura Ramshiren was also approved.
Where motions were recorded, the meeting transcript shows each action carried with all present commissioners voting in favor; there were no recorded no votes, abstentions or recusals on these items. Several items were handled on voice votes without a roll-call tally.
