Shawnee approves switch to light-duty rescue vehicle, buys Ford F-550 Skeeter Rescue under cooperative contract

Shawnee — The City Commission approved a change order on Jan. 20 to replace an earlier purchase plan for a commercial rescue vehicle with a light-duty rescue model and authorized purchase of a Ford F-550 Skeeter Rescue under a cooperative purchasing agreement.
Fire Chief Kronick told commissioners that staff identified a more suitable light-duty rescue vehicle through the vendor Conrad Fire Equipment, producing a staff-approved change order that would save $111,692.07. "Staff approved this amount," Kronick said. The commission voted to approve the change order (motion carries 7-0).
The commission then approved purchase of a Ford F-550 Skeeter Rescue from Conrad Fire Equipment under the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) cooperative purchasing agreement; staff said the light-duty vehicle will reduce out-of-service time for repairs and improve emergency response reliability. That item also passed unanimously on the record.
Both items were presented as staff-approved purchases intended to replace older equipment and reduce maintenance downtime for the fire department. Specific delivery dates and warranty details were not read into the public record.
