Osceola school board approves Black History Month, board-recognition proclamation and several personnel appointments

The School Board of Osceola County on Jan. 21 approved two proclamations, confirmed two school leadership appointments and ratified three business advisory board members during a meeting at the district board room.
Board members voted by voice to proclaim February 2025 as Black History Month and to designate January 2025 as School Board Recognition Month. Both motions were moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
The board confirmed two personnel appointments. Thomas Dunham was appointed principal at Harmony Middle School. The appointment was moved by Board Member Anthony Cook and seconded by Terry Garcia; the meeting record shows the motion passed by voice vote. Dunham, who addressed the board after approval, thanked district leadership and said he looked forward to "serving the community of Harmony and filling the shoes left by Mr. Tomoka."
Andrea Jurgens was appointed assistant principal for the new K–8 school in the Kindred subdivision (the transcript refers to the site as school "AA"). Her appointment was approved after a motion and second; Jurgens told the board she was "honored" and ready to begin work on the new school.
