Dalton council approves annexation, DOJ equitable-sharing certification, hotel liquor license and joint-development appointment

At its Jan. 21 meeting, the Dalton City Council approved Ordinance 25-01 annexing 0.35 acres at 1233 Covey Drive, certified the Department of Justice/Treasury equitable-sharing report, approved a beer-and-wine license for Holiday Inn Express (Blue Star Hospitality LLC), and reappointed Frank Robertson to the joint development authority.
The Dalton City Council approved several routine administrative and land-use items at its Jan. 21 meeting, including an annexation ordinance, an annual equitable-sharing certification, a hotel alcohol-license application and a one-year reappointment to the joint development authority.
Ordinance 25-01: Annexation of 0.35 acres. The council held a second reading and approved Ordinance 25-01, a request from Greg Townsend to annex 0.35 acres located at 1233 Covey Drive (tax parcel 12-184-01-035) into Dalton City with a zoning designation of low-density single-family residential (R-2). Staff told the council the lot is contiguous to city jurisdiction to the west and south and recommended approval. A motion to approve carried; no opposition was recorded.
Department of Justice/Treasury equitable-sharing agreement. Chief Kayson presented the city’s annual equitable-sharing agreement and certification, a required submission identifying funds received through the DOJ/Treasury Equitable Sharing Program and how those funds were spent by category. The council approved the certification; the chief noted the report must be signed by the 31st to maintain program compliance.
Alcohol beverage application for Holiday Inn Express. The council approved a new application from Blue Star Hospitality LLC, doing business as Holiday Inn Express, for on-premises pouring of beer and wine at 934 Market Street. The Public Safety Commission recommended approval earlier the same day; applicant Narin Patel was present at the council meeting. The motion to approve carried with no recorded opposition.
Reappointment to the joint development authority. The council reappointed Frank Robertson to a one-year term on the Joint Development Authority, a position joint with Whitfield County, with the term expiring Jan. 31, 2026. The council approved the reappointment without discussion.
Other routine actions. The council accepted the minutes of its Jan. 6, 2025 meeting and approved its agenda at the start of the meeting. The meeting adjourned following approval of supplemental business.
