Commission approves exterior alterations, storefront updates at 14 North Walnut Street

The Troy Planning Commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness on Jan. 22, 2025 for exterior alterations at 14 North Walnut Street including paint changes, new alley storefronts and replacement windows.
Staff broke the project into three areas: the east facade on Walnut Street, alley improvements and the west facade. The proposal calls for painting CMU with a Rookwood dark-green color on the east facade, installing three new aluminum storefronts and adding fire-rated egress doors along the alley, and updating storefront glass. The applicant also proposed two vinyl replacement windows on the west facade where one existing wood double-hung window was in poor condition and another had previously been replaced with vinyl.
Staff recommended approval, noting that historically unpainted surfaces would remain unpainted and that the project updates existing vinyl where already present. Commissioners asked about paint samples and color tones (Rookwood green and an "iron ore" trim), and the applicant provided digital and physical samples during the hearing.
A motion to approve the COA was moved and seconded and passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. The commission's approval allows the applicant to proceed with the proposed exterior renovations as described in the application materials.
