The committee discussed dividing the five nominees among members so no one person handles all outreach. One committee member reported contacting James Saunders of Berry about a Board of Libraries nomination and said Saunders was interested. Members volunteered to take nominees associated with Shelburne, Troy and other towns; a senator had requested a library board member from Weston, and Putney was mentioned in the discussion.
Committee members were instructed to brief the panel after their individual contacts and to recommend whether the committee should support each nomination. The committee noted that votes on nominations are sent to the secretary of the Senate and recorded in the Senate journal; nominations may be presented as a package on the floor or individual names may be pulled for separate attention.
Members also discussed following up with nominees after any floor action to inform them of the result. The committee was told some nominations dated from April or May and that the committee should complete its vetting and send recommendations before members "go home in May," the timetable the committee set for finishing the process.
