Students urge climate action; Hindu community thanks police after Edina temple incident

Olivia Wegman Bridal, a student and Project Earth co‑leader, told the council “over consumption is a real issue, and unwanted clothing represents 6% of municipal waste,” and urged residents to attend a community clothing swap on Feb. 22 intended to support the Edina Climate Action Plan’s material‑diversion goals. Student speaker Alexander (first name only in the record) said he joined Project Earth after noticing hotter summers and declining snowfall and urged residents to learn more about Edina’s Climate Action Plan and upcoming Earth Day Festival events.
Later in public comment Bobby Katuria, outreach coordinator for the Council of Hindus of North America, thanked the council and police for their response to a recent incident at the local SV Temple and asked the city to continue vigilance to ensure religious institutions are safe. “We are a peaceful community…we want to make sure that extra vigilance is placed so that none of that incident ever happens again,” Katuria said, and added that community members would also offer help and coordination.
Council members acknowledged the speakers and noted upcoming community events; no council action was taken during public comment.
