Gahanna council proclaims January 2025 Cervical Health Awareness Month

GAHANNA, Ohio — The Gahanna City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2-2025 on Jan. 21, 2025, designating January as Cervical Health Awareness Month and presented the proclamation to Diane Crawford, founder and executive director of The Crawford Crew.
The proclamation, introduced during the council meeting, emphasized early detection and prevention of cervical cancer through regular screening and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. Council President Bowers opened the presentation and asked Ms. Crawford to address the council.
"Good evening, President Bowers and council members and citizens. I wanna thank you for inviting the Crawford Crew here to stand in front of you to, receive the recognition for January being Cervical Health Awareness Month," Diane Crawford said. She told council the nonprofit has worked for more than 15 years to educate families and support patients at area health systems and to reduce stigma around HPV. "Go talk to your health care providers and see if it's right for you and your family," she said, urging residents to discuss vaccination and screening with clinicians.
Crawford said The Crawford Crew, based in Westerville, assists patients at Cleveland Clinic, OhioHealth and other providers and that the group recently received a state-level recognition: "The governor gave us a proclamation...for the month for the whole state," she said.
Councilman Trenton Weaver moved to adopt the resolution; Councilwoman Padova seconded. Clerk Van Meter called the roll: Weaver — yes; Padova — yes; McGregor — yes; Renner — yes; Schnitzer — yes; Bowers — yes; Jones — yes. Motion carries; Resolution 2-2025 was adopted.
The council presentation concluded with members congratulating Ms. Crawford and inviting The Crawford Crew to participate in future local outreach and education events. Council members noted the proclamation as a chance to raise awareness about cervical cancer prevention and community resources.
The council took a photograph with Ms. Crawford following the adoption of the resolution. No amendments or conditions were attached to the resolution.
