Commissioners vote to forward capital improvement plan to public hearing

The St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners voted to forward its draft FY 2015 capital improvement plan and capital budget to a recommended public hearing. The Planning Commission reviewed the plan at its meeting and provided a letter recommending the county proceed to a public hearing.

The motion to forward the capital budget was made and seconded during the budget work session; commissioners then voted in favor and carried the motion. Commissioners were presented with an updated packet that reflected changes discussed at the prior work session and during the Planning Commission review.

The vote moves the draft capital plan to the next step in the budget process: a public hearing before the Board. Formal final approval was scheduled for the following Tuesday after the public hearing. County staff said the Planning Commission would deliver a signed recommendation letter to county offices and confirmed the plan they reviewed was the version produced after the February 24 work session.

County Chief Financial Officer Kramer (presenting the material) told commissioners the Planning Commission was recommending moving forward and asked whether the board wanted to direct staff accordingly. A motion followed and commissioners approved it by voice vote.

The capital plan is now set for a public hearing; final board approval will follow at a subsequent meeting after the hearing and any additional staff adjustments.
