Committee approves amendment for Navajo restoration project participation

The Water and Power Committee approved an exemption and amendment tied to the Navajo project, a multi‑jurisdictional restoration and generation transition effort staff said began in 2018.

Sara Sábia, a staff member working on transmissions and the project, said the item concerns work on the Navajo project and described it as part of restoration and transitioning away from carbon generation. “Este proyecto es concerniente al proyecto de Navajón... que se inició el trabajo en el dos mil dieciocho,” Sábia said, adding that the amendment covers responsibilities and cost‑sharing among participating utilities and transmission owners.

Jean Cron Schartain, who identified herself as serving on the engineering board, described the project structure and referenced operations by multiple parties including APS and Western Transmission. “El proyecto sistémico Navajo se compone de plantas generadoras... media vez ya se dejan de usar en el dos mil diecinueve, se continuaría con el sistema nuevo operado por APS,” she said.
