Committee OKs extension for DWP enterprise asset management software contract

The Energy and Environment Committee approved a first amendment to agreements with Total Resource Management Inc. and IBM to continue specialized computer software services for Maximo, an enterprise asset management (EAM) system used by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Andrew Kurd, assistant director of information systems at LADWP, described Maximo as an enterprise asset management and materials management tool used primarily by the power system today. “Maximo is both asset management as well as material management,” Kurd said, explaining the system tracks physical assets (transformers, valves), maintenance cycles, inventory and three‑way procurement matches needed for invoicing and warehouse operations.
Kurd said the department is beginning to expand Maximo use for water infrastructure, though water asset management is at an early stage. He told the committee the amendment requests more time rather than additional funds because earlier authorized funds were not fully spent but the department needed more time to complete strategic work such as bringing more water infrastructure into Maximo.
The committee approved the amendment on a roll call; four members voted in favor and one member was absent.
